I asked my great guitar class to raise their hands and tell me the steps for writing a major scale on a given note. A student raised his hand and answered, "Notate the notation." Riiiiight...

My band kids all know that when its not their turn to play, they are silently practicing their parts. I turned to a student who had his back turned to me, thinking that he was talking to others, and I reminded him of the task at hand. He turned around and proudly stated, "I'm practicing my rests!"
