I went to a yoga class today for the first time in 4 years. I'm so mad at myself because I used to love it so much. How could I let this time go by?
The instructor was super nice. I explained to her my shoulder history, and the class began. Much slower pace than ashtanga, nice stretching and waking my body up.
"Huh, I can do this!"
Tree pose.
"Ok, that won't work.
Pidgeon.
"I remember my butt used to be able to touch the ground... c'mon, Body!"
Downward dog.
"Oh... upside down for that long. Really?"
It's amazing what my body remembered with muscle memory, and even more amazing the difference in where I ended before vs. where I am starting today. Some frustration.
Made it to the end meditation. Coming out of it the instructor said to feel the floor beneath me ("thank you floor" in my head) and feel the air through my lungs ("thank you air" in my head) and as we came back to reality, I was so thankful to have the ability to experience such a calming and grounding situation. Wow. I'll be back.
