Alright, where do I start? The world music drumming workshop in Maryland was amazing. I was familiar with the ensembles we learned, but it was very interesting to see the depth they went into, and I feel way more confident about teaching the curriculum this coming year. My drum kit has been on backorder since Memorial Day, and I called this week to say that I found another company that was going to peacemeal a package together for me - which is totally true. As soon as I asked, "do you charge anything for cancelling a check after ordering," the tables had turned. After about 24 hours, they called me to say they were upgrading us to the next package ($1,100 more expensive than the one I ordered) and it would ship immediately! So now I can teach this summer class next week, which is wonderful!
In the evenings in Maryland we visited with Jim's great Uncles, Tony and Luciano. He has the most amazing family ever, and I can't thank them enough for their hospitality, stories that told of Italy and helped make connections in my head about who did what and when, smiles, and the way they welcomed me as a family member. I want to remember every day the joy that these families have in life - and work that feeling into my own life.
I'm going to try to post as many photos as possible! There's also tons on my facebook account. You'll also see photos from Charlie and Erica's wedding last summer, and of the overnight hike Jim and I took last summer.
